Kajabi vs. Teachable [Read This Before Deciding]

Are you considering Kajabi vs. Teachable to manage your online-education business? In this article, I'll help you make your choice, covering the key differences in features and pricing. Though your pick should, of course, be based on capabilities you need, it should also be based on those you don't. I'm going to help make sure you're not paying for features you're already getting elsewhere, or just have no use for.
Kajabi vs. Teachable - Ted Galdi

Kajabi vs. Teachable - overall recommendation

Kajabi and Teachable are both great platforms for creating, selling, and managing online courses and coaching. Though it has more features than Teachable, Kajabi is more expensive. If you happen to need these additional capabilities, most can be integrated into Teachable via its vast partner network.

My overall recommendation, Teachable, offers a free introductory plan. You have nothing to lose signing up for the free version and trying it:

Though Kajabi doesn't have a free plan, they do have a 14-day trial.

Kajabi vs. Teachable - features

Shared features

Both platforms have the core capabilities to create, sell, and manage online courses and coaching programs. Here are the features that Kajabi and Teachable share:

  • Courses. Sell online courses with various types of educational content, such as video, audio, and PDF guides.

  • Coaching programs. Sell one-on-one and group coaching programs. Provide access to educational content, schedule online meetings with students, and send and receive messages and files.

  • Digital downloads. Sell e-books, audio files, PDFs, and other types of downloadable files.

  • Subscriptions and memberships. Offer your educational content via monthly subscription payments. Students will receive continued access to your material as long as they keep paying the monthly fee.

  • Bundles. If you have multiple educational products, you can package them into bundles, which students can buy at a discount.

  • Order bumps. While a student is completing the checkout to purchase one of your products, you can include a one-click option to buy another of your products.

  • Coupons. Offer students digital coupons, which they can use to purchase your products at a discount, a proven strategy for increasing sales conversion.

  • Buy now, pay later. Give students the option to pay for a product in installments, over time. This option is particularly helpful for selling high-ticket products.

  • Timed content release. Instead of giving your students access to all of your course/coaching content at once, you can automate the release of individual items in intervals.

  • Enrollment management. As students enroll in your educational programs, manage their material and information from an admin dashboard.

  • Landing-page builder. Create high-converting landing pages to capture leads for your business, or sell products.

  • Website builder. Access a content management system (CMS) to build out an entire website, with multiple pages and a shared navigation.

  • Payment processing. Accept online credit-card payments, PayPal, Google Pay, and Apple Pay, and automate tax calculations.

  • Referral program. Allow approved partners to promote your educational products on your behalf and receive a commission for any generated sales.

  • Analytics. Access reports on sales and student progress.
Both Kajabi and Teachable offer all of this. However, the Teachable plans are cheaper. If you see everything you need on the feature list above, I suggest you create a free Teachable account and start building your business there:

Kajabi-only features

Kajabi has various major, built-in features that Teachable doesn't. However, via third-party integrations, you can gain most of these capabilities on Teachable.

  • Email marketing. Kajabi has a built-in email-marketing tool. Design and deliver emails. Tag leads and customers based on actions they take, or don't take, and send them automated email sequences. Teachable allows you to do this too, by directly integrating with a partner tool for email marketing, like ConvertKit.

  • Podcasts. Kajabi lets you post podcast episodes on listening platforms like Spotify, and sell paid subscriptions to premium content. Teachable lets you sell subscriptions to premium audio content, however, lacks a capability for posting on listening platforms. You can, of course, simply post to those platforms directly.

  • Communities. Students of Kajabi learning programs can interact with each other, you, and your team in a private online community. Teachable offers a community feature too, but via a partner app, Circle.
